I had a revelation yesterday that almost every single male friend i’ve ever had has felt the need to give me their unsolicited opinion about my pale complexion.
As if I should want to change it b/c their (male) opinion about my body THAT I NEVER ASKED FOR is somehow inherently valuable to me. & that it should make me want to immediately go tan to change that fact about myself, FOR THEM. Because a male’s view of me is what matters most right?
Originally, as a girl growing up, my first reaction was always some sort of defense for my skin. To say, “But I can tan! No I really can!” Like I even needed to entertain this totally irrelevant notion.
Does anyone else understand how sick this is that men seriously grow up having this subconscious belief?
I’m sorry, but my parents raised me not to say rude shit to people for no reason, when no one asked for your opinion…. A.K.A. “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all…”
"I sometimes think that people’s hearts are like deep wells. Nobody knows what’s at the bottom. All you can do is imagine by what comes floating to the surface every once in a while."
The difference between appreciating women and objectifying them is a really important one.
every woman on tumblr needs to watch this.. My theory on life is that of Karl Marx…Those who control the media control the masses. They seek to keep in tact and define what is culturally valid to us. Media dictates what is socially acceptable and standard practice for all of our relationships, family structures, culture, and social roles.
Those who are in power are a few old white men who control about 3 or 4 of the worlds media outlets THOSE ARE THE MAIN ONES. You’re hundreds of cable television channels are all owned by a few old creepy white guys. YOU KNOW WHAT THEIR #1 PROFIT IS??? #PORN
Do you understand why all of media objectifies women, says heterosexual relationships are standard and that any person besides a white heterosexual male is not the ideal or first story told? Because media seeks to keep those in power IN POWER. Their world view tells our story.
Women, culture, and family structures will always be dictated by these creepy old illuminati few unless people begin to get their heads out of their asses.
dont believe me? search your late night television channels for their biggest money maker… porn
1. Recognise the importance of forgiving yourself. Not forgiving yourself will deplete your energy, and leave you feeling all chewed up inside. It keeps you living in the past instead of living in the present – so it’s hard to make the most of what’s happening today.
2. Recognise the effects of…
"Don’t settle for a relationship that won’t let you be yourself."
